The Rescue Geeks offers computer services to business
and residential customers throughout the USA and Canada. We are currently
accepting applications for Field PC Technicians (an independent
contractor position). Flexible availability is needed. The ideal candidate
should be available for service calls during most weekday daytime
hours and some evening hours during the week, as well as on some Saturdays
and Sundays. This position will average about 4-12 service calls per
week and we expect that to grow significantly as our business continues
to grow.
The primary function of this position is to perform on-site and off-site
services for PC-based equipment at both residential and business customer
locations. This position requires technical skills, people skills,
and self-management skills. Successful candidates must have demonstrated
skills as a problem solver/technical troubleshooter. He/she will be
resourceful and know how to find answers to customer's system problems.
Success depends on applying process thinking and documenting solutions.
Attention to detail, excellent follow-up skills, and the ability to
manage time and arrive promptly for service calls are all critical
traits in order to be considered for this position.
Our top priority is client satisfaction. Our service appointments
are usually scheduled "same day" or "next day". Professionalism, customer
focus, efficiency, creativity and common sense are crucial personality
traits. Customers arrange service calls through our Main Office, and
Field Service Technicians travel to the customer's site within 30
minutes of the scheduled appointment time. The prescribed installations,
repairs or maintenance is then performed on-site. Occasionally, when
deemed appropriate, hardware is removed from the customer's location
and repaired off-site, then returned to the customer's location (usually
within 2-3 business days). For this reason, a high-speed (broadband)
Internet connection is a requirement of the position. Each call is
thoroughly documented via our proprietary online reporting system.
Duties include (but are not limited to): On-site computer solutions
for Windows-based PCs; troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of all
manner of hardware, software issues, and network connectivity (wired
and wireless) issues; system installations and upgrades; software
installations and upgrades; and (for qualified technicians) network
installations and upgrades. Virus and spyware removal comprises the
majority of our service calls.
The ideal candidate will have experience as an independent
contractor or experience running their own tech support service company,
and may be doing such work currently. This position allows an
independent contractor to work for other companies (or themselves)
or maintain another part-time job while working with the Rescue
Geeks as long as the contractor provides sufficient availability
for our workload.
These positions are contract positions and are compensated on a job-by-job
basis via a weekly commission payment issued to the independent contractor,
with a Form 1099 issued at the end of each calendar year. Field Service
Technicians demonstrating the qualities listed below will earn between
$40 and $70 per on-site call (depending on technician's skill
level, type of customer, and nature of service call), with the typical
service call duration being 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
