RescueGeeks and You

Our primary focus is Business to Business (B2B) and as such we specialize in touchscreen point of sale (POS) systems, as well as CCTV, phone, and alarm systems. As an independent contractor, you would be tasked with installation and training of our systems.

Installations:

All our systems are plug and play systems, already pre-configured prior to shipping, with the clients inventory/menu pre-loaded on the systems. Systems are shipped direct to the client and you shall be scheduled to arrive at a pre-slotted time for basic setup of the system.

The average time for installs with no issues is 1-2 hours based on travel times, and questions you may need to field with the clients onsite.

RescueGeeks HQ could provide you with 24/7 support, online ticket routing, accounting and everything else needed including art work for your business cards, tool bag and company polo shirts.

You need to be friendly, informative, and confident.  In the event things are not going as planned, you need to confidently advise the client that all is well and communicate with our tech call center so as to ascertain best route to take.

For example even though all systems are pre-configured prior to shipping, there are instances where a system may experience a crash or hardware failure, or the dreaded BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

We can walk you through most issues, and worst case scenario, we will need to ship out a replacement system, but again, you as the onsite technician, exude an air of confidence that all is well and the issue, no matter how small or serious, shall be resolved ASAP.

The primary function of this position is to perform on-site and off-site services for PC-based equipment at both residential and business customer locations. This position requires technical skills, people skills, and self-management skills. Successful candidates must have demonstrated skills as a problem solver/technical troubleshooter. Our top priority is client satisfaction. Our service appointments are usually scheduled "same day" or "next day". Customers arrange service calls through our Main Office, and Field Service Technicians travel to the customer's site within 30 minutes of the scheduled appointment time. The prescribed installations, repairs or maintenance is then performed on-site. Occasionally, when deemed appropriate, hardware is removed from the customer's location and repaired off-site, then returned to the customer's location (usually within 2-3 business days). For this reason, a high-speed (broadband) Internet connection is a requirement of the position. Each call is thoroughly documented via our proprietary online reporting system.

The typical Rescue Geeks office begins life using short term shared office rental space that is typically available nationwide for $200-$400 per month, on a month to month basis.  This form of shared office space is staffed with a receptionist and provides the local Rescue Geek with ample room to begin his/her computer repair business.

The Opportunity:

top of page

Are you a go to person for technology support? Then we want you to apply with us! Rescue Geeks offers a technical work environment with above industry average income potential and flexible scheduling, all while you get hands on experience with all types of technology.

The computer technical consulting industry has mushroomed in size over the last five years. Rapid increases and developments in computer technology have caused the average user to rely on computer professionals to handle their computing repair and consulting needs. In the United States and Canada, the market for computer repair services is immense. Last year over $300 billion dollars was spent on computer and computer related services.

Approximately 55% of this revenue was generated specifically from the management of computer systems, network installation and consulting.  One of the primary attractive elements to this market is that the demand for computer and networking services is insulated from changes in the general economy. Computers will not work properly regardless of the prosperity or recession of the economic market. Management also expects that as the number of agents entering the market increases, the aggregate fees generated per firm will decrease as price competition becomes the primary differential among service providers.

As more and more households and businesses embrace computer technology, the demand for repairing broken computer hardware will continue to increase. As a computer repair technician, your job is to maintain and fix computers at a customer's business site or at home. Your service could include swapping motherboards, data recovery, disaster recovery, repairing network problems, removing viruses, installing software, troubleshooting modem and communication problems, repairing notebooks, and others.

To maintain and repair computers, you need first to know how they work and what to do when they don't. You need to know the mechanical workings of a computer, their interfaces and connections. If there are parts that need replacement, you must know where to get the components. You can develop your technical knowledge through reading books, taking courses on computer repair, videos and hands-on experience. Succeeding in this business, however, entails more than technical know-how. You need to have the personality and ability to provide a high level of service, as this is a customer-service oriented business.

Computer repair is one of the most lucrative home businesses available. You can potentially earn $48,000 to $70,000 a year.

Are you the person everyone calls when they have a computer problem? Have you considered getting paid for fixing near-fatal errors and turning your PC prowess into a business?

From the Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition

  • Job growth is projected to be faster than the average for all occupations.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required for some jobs, while an associate degree or certification is adequate for others.
  • Job prospects should be good, especially for college graduates with relevant skills and experience.

Computer support specialists held about 565,700 jobs in 2008. Although they worked in a wide range of industries, about 18 percent were employed in the computer systems design and related services industry. Substantial numbers of these workers were also employed in administrative and support services companies, financial institutions, insurance companies, government agencies, educational institutions, software publishers, telecommunications organizations, and healthcare organizations.

Employment of computer support specialists is expected to increase by 14 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for these workers will result as organizations and individuals continue to adopt the newest forms of technology. As technology becomes more complex and widespread, support specialists will be needed in greater numbers to resolve the technical problems that arise. Businesses, especially, will demand greater levels of support, as information technology has become essential in the business environment.

Job growth will be fastest in several industries that rely heavily on technology. These include the computer systems design and related services industry; the data processing, hosting and related services industry; the software publishing industry; and the management, scientific, and technical consulting industry. These industries will employ a growing number of support specialists as they utilize and provide an increasing array of IT services. Healthcare and related establishments, in addition, may see substantial growth as these organizations look to improve their efficiency and patient care through the use of information systems and other technology.

Median annual wages of wage-and-salary computer support specialists were $43,450 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $33,680 and $55,990. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,580, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $70,750.

All revenue sources within a licensee territory are as a result of joint marketing by and between the local Rescue Geeks Licensee and Rescue Geeks Inc.  Said marketing includes but is not limited to free advertising online via the more than 150 known web based classified advertising sites such as Kijiji, Craigslist, Backpage, etc...  These sites require that the local Rescue Geek Licensee posts ads on a daily basis based on tried and tested formats and following in line with existing and or future Rescue Geeks product and services marketing campaigns.  In each city, Rescue Geeks typically has a few hundred listing online, this includes local Facebook, Myspace, Google & Yahoo pay per click, and more.  This free marketing along with pre-approved paid marketing activities in each city is what drives calls and requests for Rescue Geeks products and services.  The more consistent the marketing, the more consistent the quality of services and products, the more consistent the revenue and corresponding revenue growth within a territory. Profitability depends on many factors including operating and labor costs, financing terms, your ability to operate the business effectively, and your desire and effort. But based on the US Department of Labors 2010 report, if you where to be employed instead of running your own business the potential pay is from $40,000 to $70,000 per year for a computer repair technician.

Q: Is there an opportunity to acquire more than one Rescue Geeks licensed territory?

A: Many of our current owners operate multiple licensed territories.

Q: How can I learn more about the Rescue Geeks licensed territory opportunity?

A: Forward your resume and cover letter to us at HR@RescueGeeks.com

The Rescue Geeks is looking for a Computer Technician who can service all PC’s, networks and servers.  As a local Rescue Geeks Licensee, you shall work with us, within our network of independent contractors, leveraging our brand name, marketing, resources, back office support, and technical know how.

  • This is a job that can be run right out of your own home/office, a separate office is not required.
  • 90% of the jobs our Rescue Geeks complete are handled by the tools most of us geeks already have, and when a new job calls for a new tool, well, you can worry about getting one then.
  • You must have transportation and a cell phone (a smart phone is always better but you can upgrade later)
  • You must have a notebook computer (you can find one on eBay for less then $200)

In the long run, once you are swamped with tech calls, you can upgrade to an office and or store as needed. The typical Rescue Geeks office begins life using short term shared office rental space that is typically available nationwide for $200-$400 per month, on a month to month basis.  This form of shared office space is staffed with a receptionist and provides the local Rescue Geek with ample room to begin his/her computer repair business.

Our Rescue Geeks often start this venture as a part time business to compliment their existing full time job, but many devote their full time attention to this endeavor spending the typical week conducting a variety of tasks.
